Comparison of Antimicrobial Activity of Olive Leaves Extracts and Apple Cider Vinegar against Bacterial isolates Obtained from Otitis Media

The present study included collected 120 sample from patients with otitis media, who attended to consultants of Ear nose throat in AL-Hakeem hospital in Najaf city. Through the period from (8/10/2017-8/1/2018).
The results revealed that the Pseudomonas aeruginosa was the most common bacterial isolates (45) 37.5%, followed by Staphylococcus aureus & Acinetobacter baumannii which constituted (25) 21%, (16) 13% respectively. Test antimicrobial activity of olive leaves extracts and apple cider vinegar against pathogenic bacteria causing otitis media using agar well diffusion method. This result indicated a significant effect (p < 0.05), among the microorganism Proteus sp which showed most sensitive to cold olive leaves extract range 10-28mm, both Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas fluorescence showed to high sensitivity boiled olive leaves extract range from 14-28mm, while Pseudomonas aeruginosa & Proteus sp at high levels of inhibition range 15-30mm. in comparison apple cider vinegar The maximum inhibition zone of Gram negative bacteria was observed against Escherichia coli, Acinetobacter baumannii 20-37mm, another bacteria include (Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Pseudomonas fluorescence) & Proteus sp the inhibition zone range 15-35mm & 15-30mm respectively, while the observed maximum inhibition zone of Gram positive bacteria 15-30mm, This study shows that Apple cider vinegar consider more effect in the control of otitis media pathogens than olive leaves extract.
شملت هذه الدراسة جمع (120) عينة من المرضى الذين يعانون من التهاب الإذن الوسطى والمراجعين إلى استشارية الأنف والإذن والحنجرة لمستشفى الحكيم في محافظة النجف الأشراف للفترة من (2018/1/8 – 2017/10/8).
أظهرت النتائج أن Pseudomonas aeruginosa كانت أكثر العزلات البكتيرية شيوعا إذ تمثلت بنسبة (45) 37.5 %, تليها Acinetobacter baumannii و Staphylococcus aureus التي تمثل (25) 21%، (16) 13% على التوالي. تم اختبرت الفعالية التضاديه لمستخلص أوراق الزيتون وخل التفاح ضد البكتريا المسببة لالتهاب الإذن الوسطى باستخدام طريقة الانتشار بالحفر. وأوضحت النتائج بأن هناك فروق معنوية عند مستوى احتمالية .(p < 0.05)من بين العديد من الإحياء المجهرية أظهرت بكتريا Proteus sp أكثر حساسية للمستخلص البارد لأوراق الزيتون إذ تراوحت مناطق التثبيط من 10-28ملم. بينما أظهرت Staphylococcus aureus و Pseudomonas fluorescence أكثر حساسية للمستخلص الحار لأوراق الزيتون إذ تراوحت مناطق التثبيط من 14-28ملم. في حين لوحظ ارتفاع مناطق التثبيط للمستخلص الكحولي لأوراق الزيتون تجاه بكتريا aeruginosa Pseudomonas و Proteus spمن 15-30ملم. مقارنةً بخل التفاح لوحظ إن الحد الأقصى لمناطق التثبيط للبكتريا السالبة لصبغة كرام والمتضمنة Escherichia coli, Acinetobacter baumannii ارتفعت من 20-37ملم، بينما البكتريا الأخرى تضمنت (Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Pseudomonas fluorescence) و Proteus sp إذ تراوحت مناطق التثبيط من 15-35ملم و15-30ملم على التوالي. وقد تبين من هذه الدراسة أن خل التفاح له القدرة في السيطرة على البكتريا المسببة لالتهاب الإذن الوسطى أفضل من مستخلص أوراق الزيتون.

Study Antibacterial Activity of Lactobacillus brevis Against Escherchia coli and Enterobacter aerogenus Causes Diarrhea Among Children in Holy City of Karbala.

The study included isolation and identification of pathogenic bacterial which responsible for diarrheal infection to 39 stool samples were collected from children under five years of age suffering from diarrhea attending to education children hospital for of education in the Holy Karbala during the period from May to August 2013, as it was obtained on 39 bacterial isolates from these samples, which have been diagnosed by using differential mediums, biochemical tests and by using Api 20 kits, and appeared that isolates belonging to Escherichia coli (43.58%) and Enterobacter aerogenes (30.76%) are the most common isolates that have been selected to complete the rest of the steps of the study.
A total of ten Lactobacillus spp. isolates have been obtained from different sources such as (Yoghurt ,Whey and Raw milk( ,and only one of them belong to Lactobacillus brevis showed ability to produce the cell free supernatant (biosurfactant) and showed antimicrobial activity against all pathogenic bacterial strains tested .The MIC and Sub-MIC of the cell free supernatant (biosurfactant) extracted from Lactobacillus brevis isolate was determined against studied pathogenic bacteria and the results showed that the MIC of the biosurfactant was 70 mg/ml and Sub-MIC was 60 mg/ml respectively, these results indicates that biosurfactant must be used in high concentration to inhibit the growth of pathogenic bacteria.

Comparison of Antimicrobial Activity of Both Seeds and Leaves Extract of Two Type of Cucurbitapepo L. (Iraqi&Chinese)

The seeds and leaves ethanol extracts have been prepared for Iraqi and Chinese cucurbita pepo (pumpkin) and the antimicrobial activity of these extracts were evaluated , all alcohol extracts were showed antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus , Pseudomonas aerugenosa , Escherichia coli and Candida albicans. Gram positive bacteria were more sensitive than other microorganisms, all microbial isolates had antibiotic multi resistance. The results were not showed differences between seeds and leaves extracts activity for each pumpkin types while Iraqi pumpkin extracts were more active than Chinese pumpkin extracts. The minimal inhibitory concentrations of Iraqi pumpkin seeds and leaves extracts and Chinese pumpkin seeds extract was 20 mg/ml against S.aureus while the highest concentrations were 70 mg /ml and 60mg /ml at Chinese leaves and seeds extracts against P.aerugenosa and C.albicans respectively .

Synthesis, Characterization and Antimicrobial Activity of Schiff Base Complexes of Copper (II), Cobalt (II) and Nickel (II) Derived from 4,4' - Diamino Diphenyl Methane (DDM) and 4,4'-Diamino Diphenyl Ether (DDE) with salicylaldehyde

Tetra dentate N2O2 type complexes of Cu (II), Co (II) and Ni (II) ions have been synthesized using the Schiff bases formed by the condensation of salicylaldehyde (2-hydroxy benzaldehyde) with two diamines, 4,4 - diamino diphenyl methane(DDM) to give Schiff base (L1) and 4,4'-diamino diphenyl ether (DDE) to give Schiff base (L2). Molar conductance , FTIR spectroscopy, UV- visible spectroscopy studies have been carried out to determine the structures of these complexes, from these data it is found that all the complexes posses general stereochemistry [M(L)]2.X,( L= Schiff base (L1 and L2) ; X=Cl4 when M= Cu (II), Co (II) and X=(CH3COO)2 when M= Ni (II), The ratio 2:2 ( M:L) complexes showed square planer geometry around Ni(II ), Co( II ) and Cu(II) ions. FTIR spectra showed that ligands (L1 and L2) is coordinated to the metal ions through imino nitrogen (–CH=N–) and phenolic (–OH) oxygen. The Molar conductance data reveal that all synthesized complexes are electrolyte. Another interesting results of this study is the fact that the molar conductance of Cu (II) complexes of Schiff base (L1 and L2) (L1Cu and L2Cu) are higher than those of Ni(II) and Co (II) complexes with the same ligand, ( L1Ni and L1Co) and ( L2Ni and L2Co) respectively. The Ligands (L1and L2) and their complexes were screened for antimicrobial activity by the well diffusion technique using DMSO as a solvent. The biological activity studies showed that all the prepared complexes are antimicrobially active and showed higher activity than free ligands, the complexes derived from ligand L2 gave higher activity than L1 complexes
